Friday, October 30th: Ramble - 9 km Urban Walk with Bronwyn & Mike Donaldson

This will be an urban walk, approximately 9 km long, around and through areas of interest in the souks and older parts of Doha. We will meet at 8:00 AM and depart promptly at 8:30. (PLEASE NOTE THE EARLIER START!)This departure time is important for two reasons; first, so that we can end the walk before the heat of the day, and second, to avoid the heavy traffic of the area. The expected duration is 2.5 – 3 hours. The walk is designed to go at a slightly moderate to brisk pace, for the reasons mentioned above, and you will need good walking shoes as some of the paths are a bit rough! Make sure you have sunblock, a hat, and water bottles. There are a number of grocery shops on the way where it is possible to get another bottle of water if you run out.

Safety Concerns: We will be crossing some very busy roads, so be responsible for you own personal safety at all times. Please exercise caution and do not try to hold the traffic up.  If part of the group needs to wait for the lights to change, we will make sure that the group waits for all to catch up. When the paths are narrow, please be patient and do not walk on the road. We will make a number of stops along the way.

Restrictions: Other than being ready for a fun, moderately brisk walking tour of the city - none!

Rendezvous Directions: Souk Waqif Car Park at the corner of the Corniche and Grand Hamad Street, opposite the Pearl Shell Fountain traffic lights
 
CHANGE OF MEETING VENUE: The car park has been boarded up & is off limits, so park as close as you can to the Pearl Shell Fountain and look for Bronwyn and Mike Donaldson who will be standing on the corner of Grand Hamad and the Corniche, opposite the Qatar Central Bank Building.
