May 23, 2009 End-of-Season Dhow Cruise to Al Saflia Island

Friday May 23 End-of-Season Dhow Cruise to Al Saflia Island
Forty-four QNHG members, family and friends sailed off into the Doha sunset, albeit one week and thirty minutes late.  We had a lovely afternoon and evening of sailing, swimming, eating and just enjoying the cooling breeezes of the Gulf.  Despite the temperatures, which hit nearly 45 before we got onto the boat, once we boarded it seemed quite comfortable.  When we got out to Al Saflia Island, most of the group jumped in for a swim in the not yet too warm waters.  A couple of hardy souls, dodged the jet skies and swam to the island.  After a lovely dinner cooked on board, we relaxed, watched the sun set, saw the stars come out (a few of us even saw a meteorite fall near the western horizon), then headed back, arriving at port around 8 pm.  A terrific ending to a great season of QNHG field trips.
Our thanks go out to Miranda, who sadly will be leaving Doha for good and returning home in a few weeks, for organising the event.
The Dhow cruise has had to be postponed to Saturday 23 May due to the wind and water conditions on 16 May.  Please be at the port by 2:00pm, as the Dhow will leave at 2:30 sharp!
